Generator Requirements

This machine requires a 220–240V, 60Hz, single-phase power source capable of supplying sufficient continuous power for both startup and drilling under load.

For best performance and reduced voltage drop during heavy drilling, a generator rated 7,000–8,000 running watts is recommended.

Not Recommended

Generators rated around 4,000 running watts (such as many 5,000 peak watt portable generators, ie Predator 5000) may start the machine under light conditions but do not provide adequate reserve capacity for reliable drilling performance. They can damage the core drill motor and the generator.

Important: Generator manufacturers typically advertise maximum (starting) wattage, not continuous running wattage. Always size the generator based on its continuous/rated output, not its advertised peak wattage.

Note: Many portable generators are equipped with a NEMA L14-30R receptacle rather than an L6-30R. Since this machine operates on 240V only and does not require a neutral connection, a properly wired L14-30P to L6-30R adapter is commonly used.
